Aurora Avionics, a pioneering Scottish space firm, has secured an impressive £320,000 investment to develop cutting-edge space flight technology. Following last year’s funding from the European Space Agency, the company received the latest boost from Gabriel Investment Syndicate and Scottish Enterprise. This significant investment confirms the growing interest and potential in space exploration technology within Scotland.

Based at Edinburgh’s Royal Observatory, Aurora Avionics specializes in producing essential electrical systems for flight – the avionics. The co-founders, Oren Smith-Carpenter and Rowland Fraser, aim to propel the rocket development industry with a universal modular system, enhancing efficiency and reducing waste.

Chief Executive Oren Smith-Carpenter emphasized the company’s goal to transform the wasteful process of rocket manufacturing.

“We aim to enable launch vehicle manufacturers to launch rockets promptly and inexpensively using our modular and reliable systems,”  – Oren Smith-Carpenter, CEO.

Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer Rowland Fraser added,

“Our vision of a universal modular system will result in a step-change in development time, cost, and reliability. We will give manufacturers access to the best technology to power the next generation of space vehicles.”

Market Potential

The director of Gabriel Investment Syndicate, Gillian MacAulay, expressed enthusiasm about the investment, highlighting the dynamic growth potential of the market sector.

“With the advent of a UK Space Port, we see tremendous growth in this area and are pleased to support such a dynamic team with vast expertise.”

Aurora Avionics is on track to have a full prototype system ready for testing within the year, setting the stage for significant advancements in space flight technology.
